Greetings everyone,

Well I am starting to get nervous!!!! I volunteered to haul my L3130 to our new church and help with some grading and landscaping. So another member has a regular 16' car trailer and a box blade that I am going to borrow. I have some 10k pound ratchet straps that I intend to use. I have been looking at my tractor and there is not much to hook the strap on in the front of the tractor. So that has me worried. When I pick the trailer up he will have the box blade on the trailer so I thought I would mount it to the tractor when I get home . Should I hook the straps the the rear of the tractor or should I just hook them to the box blade? Are the straps the way to go go or should I bite the bullet and go buy some chain and binders? I have to haul it on the freeway about 30 miles so I do not want any troubles. Your help will help ease my mind!!!!!

Check with your local highway patol . Some states will not let you use straps as tie downs on heavy equipment or vehicles .Go with chains and binders of proper size. I found out the hard way ! Chains at all four corners and one over all buckets or scrapers so it can not bounce going down the road . California requirement !

When I haul my B9200 20 miles to mow my food plots I use heavy duty ratchet straps. I put a clevis (sp) in the drawbar and run a strap through it to secure the rear, and run a strap over the suitcase weights or through the weight bar to secure the front. I also run one over the rotary mower. This may or may not work for you as your tractor is about twice the size of mine.

Well the trailer is rated at 7k. I do not have a loader but the tires are filled and have extra weight up front. I am guessing she will weigh in at 4000 to 4500lbs. So I should be fine. But I will also have the 6' box blade....no idea how much that weighs.

Remember that 7000lb is gross. The trailer is probably 1200-1500lbs itself, giving a payload capacity of about 5500lbs.

It may be worth a call to a local dealer to ask how much weight is added with the loaded tires, what the actual tractor weight is, and what a scraper, mower, ect would weigh.

Forgot... Chock the ramps on the trailer, near where they mate to the trailer. Seen heavier tractors lift the back of the truck off the ground as the weight cam up the ramps and onto the very back of the trailer...

Different models will vary, but my 72" LP weighs 425 lbs.

Take it easy with it. You will be pushing the envelope with a loaded 3130, loader, and box blade on a 7000lbs car trailer. I have the very same setup. Tractor alone w/fuel & oil=3300, (guessing at the rest) LA723 loader=got to be over 1000, loaded tires=got to be right at about 1000. box blade=about 500. total=at least 5800lbs. That only leaves you with 1200lbs for the trailer and any car trailer worth its weight will weigh at least 2000lbs anyway. With that said, you will be fine if the trailer is in servicable shape. When I transport mine on my 10000lbs trailer I put all implements on the deck, in gear, brake set. At the rear I run a chain w/ binder through a clevis on the drawbar, down to each side of the deck. On front I put two smaller clevises on the bottom of the grill guard that I run a length of chain from each side of the deck to the clevises and tighten with binders then I run a strap through the cross support of the loader arms (pad the strap with rags where it comes out of the holes to keep it from being cut) down to each side of the deck just for insurance.

Edit: I just noticed that you dont have a loader, only suitcase weights. Vary the formula above according to however much weigh you are carrying.

Put a block under the rear of the trailer. It may not lift the back of the truck but it will be lite. As in if your on any kind of inclide the truck/trailer will roll with the rear tires skidding.

The first time I drove my L3130 on my 7k car trailer the ramps were toast. I had to have them striaghtened and angle iron supports welded on them before unloading the tractor. The backhoe(1300 lbs) was on the tractor. I think they would have bent anyway just not to the unusable point. I'd block the ramps in the middle if I were you.

What tires are on the trailer? Mine had car tires initially and were sevearly over loaded. They looked half flat with 50lbs of air in them taking the tractor home from the dealer. I got trailer tires for it rather quick.

I use four chains and binders when hauling. The rears go around the axle and the fronts thru the frame. On the trailer I loop the chain thru the stake pocket and hook to the frame just underneath.
