going organic with the lawn food --

/ going organic with the lawn food -- #11
I attended a lecture given by an ex-prof at the Texas Extension Service specializing in grass/lawn care 2 or 3 weeks ago. He was asked the question, "Was there any advantage to using organic fertillizers on lawns?" and his answer was, "No". It seems that grass can't take up organic N-P-K and has to wait for bacteria/microbes in the soil to break it down to inorganic N-P-K before it can absorbed so why bother? ... use the inorganic in the first place and save some money. He also said that if you want to add organics to your lawn just mulch your grass clippings. He said that was possibly the single best thing you could do for your lawn. It was an interesting lecture and discussion. I picked up a few snippets of information that I'm going to use this year. See what happens. After 30 years of gardening, just when you think you know it all, something comes along to prove that you're not half as smart as you thought you were.
