What are your goals in life? What drives you to get out of bed every morning? You have to strive to accomplish something meaningful in your life, otherwise you just kind of drift through life with no direction. Do you set goals for yourself? Monthly, yearly, five years, ten years or longer perhaps? Do you write them down or keep them in your head?
I look back on my life sometimes and break it down into five year blocks. Man, those five-year blocks of time sure do fly by! When I turned 40 last year, I spent some time looking back and asking myself: “Do I want the next five years to be like the last five?” What can I do differently each day to improve and make life better for myself and my family?
Well, here are some of the things I decided to change:
1. Health and fitness. I started exercising 17 months ago, with cardio and weights and am now darned near addicted to it. It feels great and I perform better at work and have more energy through the day. My goal is to be able to bench press 300# X 10 reps by next August.
2. Take college courses to improve my competitiveness for promotion. I entered management at my company last December. My goal is to become Maintenance Manager in five years.
3. Pay off all debt, including mortgage by January 2015.
Those are my longer-term goals. In the short term, I’m working on building six acres of pasture and fencing it in the next six months.
It is my hope that by posting this that it will inspire others to post some of their goals, and maybe get some ideas that will help someone toward reaching a goal, or learn something that will expedite the realization of my own goals.
So, what do you plan to achieve this year, next year, five years from now?
