I will soon be due for my break in (50 hour) service. I have done this service myself on my last 2 machines (B7500-B3030). The 50 hour service on the 3540 calls for adjustment of the clutch, im not qualified to perform this adjustment. My question is, how much adjustment could the clutch really need after just 50 hours?

Page 92 of owners manual describes procedure for adjusting clutch free travel. (20mm ~ 30mm / 0.8" ~ 1.2") If clutch free travel is within spec, no adjustment is needed.

The manual is pretty good. Just follow it. A few oddities like 2 engine oil drain plugs, Have to remove a plug to grease the front axle pivot, Fuel system is not self bleeding. But it is still a very simple service. I recently completed the 200 hour service. :)

Mine has required NONE after 250 hrs.:) This adjustment is very easy though. You just kneel down on the clutch side and depress the pedal until you feel some resistance. The distance the pedal moves is the spec. So it kind of helps if someone holds a ruler next to your pedal so you can more easily depress the pedal to feel the resistance.

So ask your wife to kneel down by your tractor holding the ruler, while you sit in the comfy seat and depress the pedal. Then take her out for a really nice dinner, so you don't end up sleeping with your tractor for a week, or two

BTW the true procedures/costs of maintaining a tractor are not in the Kubota manual :)
