gf1800 deck lift question

I have a new to me GF1800 and the manual is unclear what position the deck lift lever should be in while mowing. Do you put the deck down on the lawn and return it to neutral or do you leave it in the down position?

Leave in the down position as that is also float which allows the deck to float with the terrain.
