I just tried to download photos into the new Photo Gallery. It down loaded one from my computer of the original tree snipper. I put url of my post yesterday from Build it Yourself thinking it would "detect and parse" the photos from the thread. Instead it included personal photo signatures(Henro and me) and bits of graghic that are senseless. How do I delete this junk. I tried putting in the url from just the picture(Attachment) from the thread and they never showed up. Like many online instructions I find the FAQ section cryptic, sparse and confusing. I know it takes the brain of a 16 y/o to understand this stuff but thank god I outgrew that. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

LATER

2 1/2 hrs later' I guess you can't download a photo from TBN, only from your cookie recognized home computer. That's a little scarey going into your computer and plucking data out.

I found the "edit" function to delete the shards of graphic and Henro's and my picture - all without my 17 y/o's help /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

One thing for sure, navigating Muhammad's site over the last 4 years has taught me alot about computers. I still think a lot more people would us them if some better instructions existed. That joke about an ole Yankee telling someone who ask for directions that "you can't get to there from here" was made for computers. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Not directly. All you have to do is download the attachment to your PC then upload it to the photo gallery.

I am not sure what you mean by this. While you have to be logged in to TBN to post photos, nothing verifies it's coming from your 'home computer'. How is this any more 'scary' than uploading an attachment to TBN or CBN, where you also have to be logged in to post? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

At almost 1,000 posted photos, somebody must be figuring out how to do it. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

To pluck the photos out of my computer some other computer has an electronic route to "My Documents" in my computer were they are stored. Other folders in "My Documents" have personal financial data in them. To me that "route" is perilously next door to personal data. For sure, I trust the the integrity of Muhammad's operation but apparently another contracted computer (PhotoPost) is involved and demonstrates to me a path that less scrupuless persons could exploit if this data was hacked into. I'm certainly no computer whiz but Bill Gates doesn't have a stellar record re his products and security. Am I unecessarily leery? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Your computer sends the photo to Muhammad's server one time, where it resides for others to download and view. This is the same as attaching a file to an email, or attaching, for example, your picture
296.gif
to a post. Once the picture is on the server, they don't have to come back to your computer again.

Your PC is sending the file, the server isn't 'plucking' the file from your PC.

The protocol we use to allow users to send data is one that is in use all over the internet. There is very little that is 'scary' about it. But I understand that anything that is unknown can be a little intimidating. I hardly can believe some of the things I see online.

Anyway, as for taking a route near sensitive data. It simply doesn't matter. Your harddrive is made up of rotating discs that store your data magnetically as bits. This makes sense to a computer, but wouldn't to a human, so the directories are a good way to show us normal people where things are located.

So while they look 'right next to each other' when you're looking at them in Windows. In reality they might not be anywhere near each other. If you've ever defragged a harddrive, you can see the graphical representation of data, and how scattered it can become.

Rest assured that TBN doesn't have the ability to read anything from your harddrive except cookies. And anything you send to us is sent first through your ISP, THEN to us. We aren't anywhere near your computer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
