Any magic tricks to getting the odor of diesel fuel out of clothing? Been nursing along an old style filler spout that split in the middle of a fill----- work jacket sleeve and sweat shirt cuff soaked. Jacket is too pricy to pitch. I've had no luck in the past with detergents and stain remover products. Was thinking of something along the lines of Gunk engine cleaning stuff, but might be a tad harsh on the fabric.

Anyone got a system?

I use Sent A Way when I spill gas on my clothes. Same stuff I use for hunting. Seems to work well.

Soak it in simple green and then rinse well and wash normally.

A little bit of Dawn dishwashing detergent in your laundry works well.

I do exactly what iflywhatevr recommends. I rub liquid laundry detergent into the area and wash with the liquid detergent still soaked in the clothing. If its going to be too much detergent - rinse first - then throw in the washing machine. Some clothing - the stain always remains but the odor is gone. Others - both the stain and odor goes.

My Carhart work jacket - I wash once a year. Don't worry about the small fuel spills. Grease spots- just rub with a shop towel. The grease will come out with the annual washing.

It’s not a fast problem solver but sunlight and time will get it done. Preferably in warm weather or sunroom.

Some of use love the smell of diesel. After a stint in Vietnam living in a hut with plywood floors we soaked in diesel to make easier to clean and deter bugs you get to kinda like the smell. Our offices were the same so the smell was around 24-7. That is not an excuse to splash it all over me. Like Oakie says, it gradually goes away on its own. It does seem to be a mosquito and other bug repellent.

Swarfega(best), or some other hand cleaner to remove grease, oil etc.

He may be having a problem with the women gathering around, that diesel brings them around like moths to a flame, makes it tough to get anything done !

Tractor After-Shave...... if them ladies are only used to being around metrosexuals, OP may be spending too much time taking the top-link off to fend them away :D

I'll second Simple Green - safe to use in concentrated form, let it soak-in for a while before doing a regular wash. I haven't had to use it on a significant diesel spill, but I've often used SG to get grease stains out of my "fancy" work clothes.

Some people use solvents (pretty much what dry cleaning fluid is....) in the wash..... not what I want to do in the house.....don't want the smell, and there are obviously vapour risks in enclosed spaces, and definitely around electrical equipment.

^ other things can work, but I've found SG pretty effective, and very safe to use....... Safety being the original reason it was designed....
