I have been looking at the Stihl MS 360PRO. I priced it out at $499.99. That is a little more than I wanted to spend. I decided to drop down to the Stihl MS 310. I priced that saw at $329.99. That is the saw I am getting tomarrow. I also looked at the MS 290. That priced out at $299.99. They are basically the same saw with the same weight but the 310 has a little bit more power. I think for the 30.00 I am going to get the 310. What do you think? These good prices?

You probably will not find much flexibility in prices for Stihl as they hold on to their distribution network pretty tightly. I was able to talk my local dealer into a slightly longer bar (18") on mine (.029 Farmboss) without an upcharge, but they were not all that happy about it. But they also didn't want me to go down the road and buy from "the other guy". /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

More power is always better when it comes to chain saws...so the extra few dollars for the "upgrade" is not a horrible idea at all.

I bought a Johnsered 2050 Turbo about six years ago. Still starts up on the first pull everytime even if it does sit most of the winter. I have been really happy with the saw. Most of my use is at my cabin where everything is pitted with sand. No matter what you do it involves sand. I took the saw in last summer just for a general check since it never has been done and the guy said it was in tip top shape but did find a lot of sand in the filter.

So if you want to compare pricing with your Stihl I wouldn't be afraid to buy something different.

As far as still running fine, I bought my Stihl 041 Farm Boss in the spring of 1975, and it still starts on the first pull (third if cold, but the rest of the day on the first pull at idle). Now that is about 28 years next month. It has been used extensively and sure sold me on Stihl. I'll replace it in a heart beat, if it ever misses a beat, with another Stihl.

Whatever size saw you get, get one of the Stihl "pro" saws. These have rebuildable, long-lasting engines. The other saws are pretty much casual user type of equipment. For not much difference in price a pro saw will keep going much better over the long haul.

I have the 029 with a 20" bar. The saw is VERY powerful. If the 310 is more powerful - wow.

Yep...the "pro" saws are the even numbered ones, like the 036 and the 044 (old model).

I hear you on that 029. I can't imagine needing more power than that dude has. Its an animal!

Power? Remember the 090? now that had some power. I have a 029, 032, 056 and a couple of others that the numbers have disappeared from and they all run great. I used to run homelights, but the dealer left so I went to stihl. I am not sorry.

I love power! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif But I have found that there is a little light weight husky 350 that I have aquired quite a fondness for. I'll pick it up first every time and use it till it gets dull. A good balance of power and weight. But more bang for the buck is also a good feature. So if it had been in stock on a Sunday I would have the larger rancher model for the same price. Funny how things turn out. Stihl was and stihl is a great saw. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I had to work that in there.
