Getting a copy of my DD214 online for Home Depot 10% veterans discount

Soon after we returned to Virginia from Mississippi last summer I found that HD was going to open up their 10% discount to Veterans.

It's limited but painless and would still save me up to $400/year.
But unlike Lowes they wanted a copy of my DD214. Lowes had it all set up online and confirmed military service differently. But all my paperwork was down in Mississippi and I couldn't get to it. And since I got out so long ago (1978) they didn't have my record online.
So on 11/11/21 I submitted a request at NARA | e-Vetrecs ..
The paper came today. That's a while, but it was all online.
So if you need a copy of your DD214 it's possible, just takes a while.

I find Lowe's to be less hassle and have better prices to boot. Yes, I do have my DD 214 but I need not remember to take it with me to Lowe's and the discount is automatic if I order on line from Lowe's. I'm not sure how Home Depot handles online orders.

I just used mine at Lowes today, saved $10.
I still have my original DD214 it's a bit battered in a couple of corners on that super light weight paper,
got that back in 74.

Mine was the opposite. I did the application on Lowes site, but it wouldn't verify for some reason. Seems like mine was too old ... back into the 80s. Had to take the paperwork to the store to finish it and get verified.

HD was done on their site and verified in seconds.

I still have hard copies of my DD214 (both long and short forms). I have no intention of putting my DD214 into their database. Has too much of my personal information on it. I don't need a discount that bad.

Several years ago I went to a VA institution to get (apply) a DD214.....with my honorable discharge. The lady gave me so much paperwork to take home and fill out, that i just said to myself ..."forget it".

If memory serves there was a fire way back when prior to DD-214's and pre-70 military records were lost?
