This is certainly off-topic, but I need a wiring diagram (ignition/start) for a Chicago (Harbor Freight) 6500 generator w/ electric start. It uses a gx390 clone engine, with a fuel cut solenoid on the carb. The solenoid isn't getting energized. The carb and solenoid is new, as is the ignition switch - however the 6-wire switch doesn't buzz out to match the switch diagram I have, and I don't seem to have any connections from 12V to any of the blades, so I don't have a clue of what is going on. I can't find a wiring diagram anywhere.

I suspect that any brand of generator in the 6000-10000W range that uses a fuel-cut solenoid and has electric start will have a wiring diagram that is close enough for me to use. Help!!

Look around the starter for a power source connection with a fuse in it. Sounds like a fuse has blown. One of the connections on the switch most of the time has battery voltage on it. Use a ohm meter and check the wiring for a open.

In-line fuse is good. I have the 12V input to the switch. When the switch is 'on' 12V should go to the fuel-cut solenoid - at least that's what I think is supposed to happen. At 'start', 12V goes to both solenoid and starter solenoid. I buzzed out the original switch, and found that none of the other terminals are connected to 12V in the 'on' position (two terminals shorted in the off position). I figured the switch was bad and problem solved - HOWEVER, the new switch buzzes out the same (as though it's a 4-wire switch), so now I'm clueless. I need a diagram to see what is supposed to be happening.

Did. Diagram is not available for that particular generator. However, ANY diagram for ANY gizmo with a gx engine having e-start and full-cut solenoid will do.

Have you tried putting 12 volts directly to the solenoid to ensure that it is operating?

The purpose of that solenoid is to prevent dieseling. The generator is normally shut off by grounding the coil and if that does not work then it will shut down due to lack of fuel.

A way to get around it if the solenoid is not working is just to cut the tip off. Make sure it is bad first.

Not sure if this one will help but it gives you an idea of where to start.

Yes, the solenoid is good. I actually replaced the entire carb/solenoid assy. because I thought the solenoid was bad (only $20). Then, once it still didn't work, I realized I wasn't getting any voltage to the solenoid except at 'start'. I pulled the switch and buzzed it's connector, and there isn't a connection from the 12V lead to any other lead. I figured the switch was bad, so I got another one, and it is the same as the first. SO with no additional line lit up at 12V with the key 'on', I don't know what is supposed to happen - maybe it is supposed to be energized by the charging line only? This is why I need a wiring diagram.
