Anyone have any comment on the sd060 60kw generator from generac...... series 2000

I found one on ebay for 8500,,, 2002 model, new with 0 hours ?

Sounds like a deal and is in texas...

I have been lookin for my business.... This is larger than I need but for this price.... Actually uses less fuel than the smaller version of it as well... Deere engine

Comes with 200 gallon tank mounted with it....

enclosed unit,,, does not seem to come with the xfer switch but that is no biggy....

Thanks for your time !

There have been some bad experiences with light duty gasoline Generac generators posted here on TBN recently--bad service follow through by Generac. But, what little I've seen (specs) seems to indicate that the big Generac units are not a cheap commodity product and should be a little more durable. Buyer beware!

But, at that price, I think I would check out the unit. By that, I mean go look at it and buy it on the spot if it looks good. Take a few electric heaters with you for a little load, 2 or 3 KW is better than nothing. Be prepared to have to wire a plug in though. The big units rarely have convenience outlets on them.

Tom I've had bad experiences with Generac. Do yourself a favor and go online and try and find their warranty and read it. For mine comercial custumers only get a 6mo. waranty on the engine and 1yr on the generator part.

And lets say you need it for a project thats OFF THE GRID (meaning no power going to the home or using it for emergency power to power your home) It's not covered under waranty. Got that right from the Tech himself. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Um.. if it's not to be used when there is no power..? when do you use it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That's kinda like a life raft that says not to use in wet conditions? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Also make sure there are no regulations against using it at a business. Even in Texas, generators are regulated as to their use and when they can be run for a business. That was a point made sometime during Enrons fiascal and its power sales to California.

Strange, isn't it???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

They may start a new advertising campaign stressing the fact that they will give a 25 year limited warranty, while in the small print there is a disclaimer that it's valid only as long as you don't start it up.

I've read some of the bad stuff about generacs here.

Seemed like mostly it was the smaller stuff...

This is a fairly big diesel with a deere engine...

I am still weary of generac though ....

I wonder how many people would have a 60kw at their house ? So I would think the warranty would mainly be for commercial.... I will however look and see..

Based on you guys comments here,,, I'll probably just pass...
