Nobody ever replace one of these? I see where the shifter lever looks like it can be removed from the tranny, just not sure what happens if I remove it. Just don't want some big mess over changing the boot.

I can't help you but you may want to get a service and parts manual. They are very helpful and chances are you're going to have more projects like this one popping up in the future.
P.S. I'll try to remember to look in my service manual when I get home. Its for an L4400, but it may be similar.

Its not clear on mine either. The service manual says nothing about it. The parts manual shows the boot fitting on top of the gear shift housing but does not show anything holding it in place. There is a circlip directly under it but I don't think the circlip has anything to do with the boot. It may be that you just stuff the edges of the boot into the inside edges of the gear shift housing. Thats the best I can figure.

Hi, I have a B6200 that I have owned since it was new in 1986 and have replaced the shifter boot at least 4 times. The best way to replace it is first wet a rag and wrap it around the bottom of the shifter close to the boot. Then with a propane torch heat the top part of the shifter rod. Be careful not to heat the shifter knob. Turn the knob as You gradually heat the rod. It does not take much heat to break the glue bond on the knob. Then remove the snap ring on old boot and remove boot. Clean out any crud that is below the boot area with a rag. Apply clean grease to area that boot protects. Install new boot, check shifter in all positions to make sure boot is aligned properly before installing snap ring. I threaded the shifter rod on my tractor and made a threaded new knob. Shame on Kubota for not taking the extra step to do this. But you can simply apply epoxy to the old knobs hole and let it set up overnight. Hope this helps.
