Are u in high range or low range. A hydro will whine some. I don't hear mine much if at all in low but in high range up hill especially it will whine. Make sure your fluid level is topped off. Is this a new tractor?

Mine is quiet in high range, only whines in low range, been this way from day one, just did 50 hour maintained and all new filters and fluids and such, everything topped off as should be, still whines in low range....

Guys, it's new to me, but only has 70 hrs on it. Previous owner had the 50 hr service done by the dealer, so all that should be good. Hydro looks full...maybe too full? Is that a thing? The sight glass has no line, it's just all yellow in there. I read a little about it, people where saying if it's overfilled it will blow out from the fill tube so no biggie. Is that right?

DMW, yeh the brake is off, mid and rear pto levers all in disengaged position, and the pto engage lever all the way back to off position. And while I'm on it, can somebody explain why the pto engage lever has a middle position? What's the point of that? Or is that what you mean, it should be in that middle spot? Manual doesn't clarify.

I read some more last night about this hydro whining stuff, seems it's kinda common. I could live with it if it's normal to have that.

You'll hear a lot more whine if you're in 4WD mode and don't need to be. Tires rip more turf in tight 4WD turns, too.

I use 4WD to get unstuck or for 'digging' with FEL (cutting from a pile) but prefer 2WD when not needed, & for being easier on lawn.

btw, Extra front tire wear isn't always from heavy loader use. ;)

All hydro's whine to some extent, some of us are so use to it we don't really think about it.. The rear fluid glass should be between half and three quarters, even if it's higher it's not going to effect the whine..

The pto lever has a middle position to stop the the shaft from spinning, for instance, if I'm snow blowing and I make a pass and lift the blower at the end of my driveway I put it the middle position and then engage it again to make another pass, it doesn't stop the shaft immediately like if pull the lever all the way back.. So you put the outer lever in pto position and then use the inner lever to engage, if you do it the other way around you will hear some grinding which isn't good..

It takes less than a pint of oil for the sight glass to go from empty to completely full. Level will fluctuate with hydraulic cylinder extension/retraction. The level will drop when all the cylinders are extended.
Dealer serviced usually means you got whatever bulk oil they use. It will be mediocre quality, but serviceable. It can also contribute to the hydro whine. Just keep an eye on it. Check after use occasionally, if there is any water contamination, it will become milky.

I asked about the parking brake as the noise seemed to occur when moving forward. The tractor can power though the brake like it's not there. It produces a groaning or squealing sound.

If the 3 point hitch raise/lower lever is not centered, it can also produce strange noises. Sometimes the lever gets stuck slightly up.

The extra notches on the PTO lever is to prevent accidentally engaging/disengaging the PTO.
