Hi Folks,

I'm looking to get a gc2400 as a rugged lawn mower and bush hogger for steep woods trails. The dealer said a 10% cash discount would be better than a free mower deck. Looks like this.

$9100 tractor, $2200 60 inch MMM, $1100 kodiak 48 inch rotary cutter. It looks to me like a free $2200 mower is better than $1000 cash discount by a clean $1000.

Am I missing something or is it reasonable to bring this up to the chap? That deal seems reasonable to me.

I looked at the Massey just recently and really liked how it was laid out. Separate Hydro pedals for forward and reverse. Exhaust is off the right side of the tractor and not on the operator access side. Loader function at idle, unlike some of the others. All options on the front tires seem to be the same wide width which gives good loader stability. The throttle is the more normal, push fwd for fast and pull back for slow. A proven Iseki engine as the power source. I have not used one but really like the features I saw.

If your paying cash, I would go with the free mower deal. It sounds like the better deal. Will the mower come with the PTO shaft? Did the dealer explain why it was better, or did he just say it was better? I would ask him to explain why?

The free mower probably isn't a $2200 discount. Generally they discount the mower at cost, before any freight setup and such. It should still be a better deal though. (for you anyway)

for all you gc owners, is the ground clearance really 6.7 inches, and less than the competition, or is this one of those stat. interpretation.

I have the older model, the GC2310. Other than a control rod that sticks down an inch or so beside the right rear tire, I'v got a bit over 8" to the lowest point, a guard under the transmission/oil filter.

So I guess, technically, that control rod does bring it down to 6.7". On the other hand, you'd have to hit it just right as it's somewhat shielded by the tire.

Thanks for the info. I only looked under in the snow and I didn't have a tape. I was mostly looking to see if there was that plastic achilles heel--the fan. I did not even notice a fan, but I did see the guard over the filter which looked like a good idea.

My salesman is distracted by personal issues and isn't too intent on the sale.

I noticed the clearance was low on he 2400 and 2600. Has it been an issue for anyone with regards to woods work?

Bottom line is all sub-compacts are pretty low give or take a couple inches and if you are going to use them in the woods-shielding is a good idea because of the cooling fan.
