A few weeks back I entered a post about the troubles I was having getting good results raking my gravel driveway. I finally bit the bullet and bought those pricey gauge wheels for my Land Pride rake and I am happy to report that they made all the difference. Instead of moguls, I now have a nice smooth surface. Just proves that if you throw enough money at a problem you can sometimes solve it.

Yep, can't imagine using a rake without the wheels.

I installed gauge wheels on the rear blade of the B7100. It now allows me to roll a proper windrow when working on my access road. Has really done wonders for the quality of the finished product.

Home built for a total cost of maybe 20 dollars.

Gosh $20! I'd like to see a picture of that. I'm embarrased to say what I paid for my gauge wheels.

Here is a photo of the set I made for about $20.00. Also made a set for a buddy of mine for about the same $$. Used scrap steel and only had to buy the wheels and tires.

Yes, I read your initial report and would like to know where you bought your gage wheels - and although embarassed how much were they. I have a similar problem smoothing my driveway, not terrible, but would like it to come out looking like I speant some time on it.

Thanks, Frank D.

Brett, They say a photo is worth a thousand words, so here are 3K worth of words! Boy sure saves alot of typing! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just copy these if you have any questions just ask. The castors are 1" rods inside of pipes and the spacers are just pieces of the same pipe cut off. The rest is just 1/4" steel.

This may be a stupid question but I thought I would ask. I know the gauge wheels help in leveling roads, etc but do they also assist in moving the beast around? I don't have wheels because I have lots of hills and I haven't seen that I needed them but if they also assist in maneuvering I might consider them.

Thanks.

MAJMAC392,
In my first set of photos you can see the support stand with a wheel that I made for moving the rake around. This allows me to move the rake sideways thru a doorway for storage that I can't get the tractor in. The wheels without the stand make it easier for hooking up the rake to the tractor as well. You just have to set the wheels at their lowest stetting before removing it from the tractor.
