I understand that if a sorry thief wants something they will go through great lengths to get it but I don't want to make it a cakewalk either. There are various types of padlock shackles and other lock protection devices but what I'm looking for is something heavy duty. Over the years, I've seen some nice inventions barring entry to oil and gas leases as well as big ranches. One of which was a lock concealed inside of a steel collar or pipe. Another was a large cylinder type device with many different locks on top of it, I think you move the cylinder around to your lock? If anyone has some plans on how these go together please IM me. I'm open to all other tamper proof devices as well. I'm already positioning game cameras that will at least capture them in the act and their vehicle. I hate thieves.

I would love to see the cylinder with the different locks. Sounds like just the answer to a gate problem in town.

the local john deere dealership has a gate on their lawn mower compound, the one of the gates that swing together has a heavy piece of flat bar sticking straight up then the other gate has this cover that is bolted farther back on the gate so it swings down onto and over this piece of flat bar then you shove your hand into it to padlock it its designed so no matter what way you come at it you cant get bolt cutters to the shackles, now you can get a torch to it quick as can be but who carries that around to thefts?

go look at the padlocks they sell at storage units - they're round, supposedly pick-proof, and the shackle is hidden inside the round body except for enough of it to engage the 2 pieces of metal being locked together so there's supposedly no room for a hacksaw blade.

otoh - then your thieves might do you the way they did me -- pop the hinge off and pull the gate off the post...

CTW,

If you have a fence charger, battery operated, and your metal gate is insulated from ground, just hook up the hot wire to the gate, but have a way for you to disconnect when you want entry. If you have motion sensors, then it will only be on when sensor has picked up on something.

I use those big round locks, no way to get a bolt cutter to the lock. It took me 30 min and about ten disk , using a battery Dremal to cut through the harden shaft.
