I have just bought a White brand garden tractor. I don't know the model number but it is MTD . It is 21 hp with a 46 " cut. Anyway it has a quarter sized hole in the top of the gas tank. Any ideas for a patch and a model number? I've tried silicone with soap jug patch, didn't work. Tried another glue that seamed to stick great until the gas sloshed around in the tank and melted the glue. My latest try hasn't been tested yet. I used a putty like compound I got from TSC it's suppose to be for gas tanks but a friend says nothing sticks to styring. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks charlie

again, look under the tilting seat for an ID plate/decal with full model number and serial number on it.
go to PDF Manual Web Archive , put in those numbers and you should get to a downloadable parts list that will get you a fuel tank p/n...

might be best to replace that tank and the fuel line/filter down to the carb to avoid dirt/debris from that tank hole messing up carb...

The guy I bought it from did some painting on it and replaced the seat with a gray and red boat seat he bought from a rummage sale because it matched the tractor. I didn't see anything on the bottom of the original seat but I'll look again. Thank you.

Most auto parts stores sell a "Fuel tank repair kit", for around $10-$12.

I like the NAPA Balkamp one, but the others are very similar.

The kit includes sandpaper, a brush, fiberglass cloth, and a 2 part epoxy.

It's fast and easy. I have installed probably a dozen of these to fix fuel tanks, over the years, and every one has held. (I have also used them to fix tears in plastic bumpers).

I ran over something that punched a hole in the fuel tank on my current vehicle, about 6 years ago, and it has had one of these patches on it ever since. You don't even have to drain the tank, they give you some wax to stick in the hole.

If it's a really big hole, you can use 2 kits.

Look in the CAVITY under the tilting seat - not necessariiy the seat underside. Should be an ID plate or decal down there someplace.
