I'm looking for a new Gas Grill. Are the Infrared one's the way to go or just plain old propane? I have a charcoal Weber now but want something Propane also.

Thanks

Propane Webers are great!

Propane Webers are great!

Second this. We have 4 locations and the BBQs get used regularly at all 4. We tried them all- from HD house (cheap) brand to the specialty fireplace shop's top dollar units. We probably have purchased 10 in the last 15 years. Once we stumbled onto the Weber mid/upper grade units ($600-$800 range ish) (I think it's the Genesis or something g like that) the failure and repurchasing stopped.

Spend the money and have years of service.

I'll throw in for the Weber grills. I bought a Spirit a couple of years ago, and it's great.

I had a Char-Broil infrared before that, and didn't much like it. I just couldn't adjust to the different cooking style, so I replaced it.

The Spirit is a simple grill, but it works, and has been very reliable so far. Now that I'm looking at the Genesis line, I might upgrade to that when this one fails me, but I expect it'll be a while.

I have always preferred the Holland Grill, it is expensive but it is common to get 20 years out of one, and should you need a part they will have it. I will have another one again some day.

Holland Grill

We have a Holland Cooker as well. It's lasted for some time but rarely gets used. Not that is bad it's just a s-l-o-w cooker and we rarely (pun intended thank you very much!) have the time.
I'm assuming the Holland folks are excellent cooks and have the patience to make excellent BBQ.

I've been burnt with both expensive one's and throw away ones. It seems they all have burners that disintegrate well before they should. The difference is that the expensive one's main "body" & cooking grates are still in great shape, but you feel worse shitcaning it because it still looks good - burners shot, but it's still pretty!
I like to cook on wood now, and am converting my last burnt out (but still pretty) expensive gas grill to work with wood or charcoal. Much better flavor.
To me, a gas grill is to outdoor cooking what a microwave is to an oven. Quick, but just "ok" in results.

A few years ago, we fell victim to the Costco stainless steel giant that had it all. Side burner, searing burner, back burner, rotating thingy, drawers and so on... I went to clean it up the second spring and the 4 bbq burners were rotted out along with the shields above them. No worries, we had lifetime burner warranty, but found out it was $70 for shipping and handling. We finally got the new burners and shields and they lasted several years, but when they needed replacing again, we bought a Traeger (had small gas BBQs for camping also when needed). SIL made a comment that he wished they had a nice big BBQ like that Costco one. We loaded it up and delivered it to them... I told my daughter that with Amazon and the interweb, she should be able to find burners cheap. She did, 4 for $15 dollars. Ordered them and now they have a wonderful BBQ. My advice, depending on how big of unit you need, take a good look at Weber units (one of our camping units) and if you are looking for big, consider one with brass burners. I am told they don't rust out.
