Gas pedal issue

My Kobota t1560 threw a drive belt,After I put the belt back on and started the mower,I pressed on the forward gas pedal and the mower goes in reverese.When I press the backward gas pedal the mower goes forward.Can any tell me how this can happen and how to fix the problem?
