Hello,

I just moved to a new house that has 5 acres of land to maintain/mow. It is set up on 3 platforms with hills in between. The middle piece is about 1.5 acres on 3-6% grade in different areas and the last piece is about 2 acres flat. There are not many obstacles to manuveur around but the hill to me looks significant. In the winter I would like to use the tractor to either snow blow or push the snow. The home is located in Wellsville NY which is about 95 miles south of buffalo. Just outside the snowbelt. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Someone recommended to me a JD GT235 second hand for 2200. What do others think?

Once again thanks for any info.

Let's see, with a five acre yard mowing at four miles an hour with a 48" deck you should be able to mow and acre and a half an hour. Does that time seem right for you?

With that much lawn and adding winter snow duty, I would recommend something bigger than a Deere GT200 series. I would be looking for something that came with a 60" mower deck, locking or limited slip rear differential and either a 54" front plow, or 48" wide snow blower with hydraulic lift.

I would recomend a Kubota BX25 or the next step up a B2x20 series. I have the b2620 for about 5 acres (own 3 and maintain another 2) and I feel its the perfect fit for my property.

How does a 48" mower deck cut an acre in a half hour? I have a Kubota BX2660 with a 60" deck and it takes about 4hours and 15 minutes to mow a bit over 3.5 acres with hills, some trees, fence lines and some gates to go through. 4wd on the hills especially when ther grass is wet is great as is fuel consumption of less than a gal per hour.

I got a 50 inch deck on my lawnmower takes me about 3 hours to cut maybe 1 1/2 acres, normal yard, trees, buildings, etc.

Its all about what you can pay for new or if you want to take a big chance and buy used.If you want one of the better ones with 50 inch or bigger deck, you're talking 5-7 thousand. If you want to go the cheaper route your talking 2-3 grand.

Hi Raul , welcome to TBN , what is your budget ??? What size is your
driveway ??? I agree with bontai_Joe , the GT235 seems undersized for the
tasks at hand IMO ...

One acre = 43,560 sq/ft; at 4 MPH with a 4 ft deck, you will cover roughly 42, 200 sq/ft in 1/2 hour. 'Course, that doesn't allow for overlap of the cuts, slowing down for turns, getting off to take a break, etc..

Hello,

Thanks for the info. It was greatly appreciated.
The driveway is very short maybe 20 ft.
I agree with most that the GT 235 is a bit small for the job.
The budge is about 3500.
I have checked red and green otherwise and really there is nothing close. The only thing I have found that might work new is the cub cadet 2550 which I found for $3600. Although the reviews I have read about cub cadet have not been great there is a big change when stepping up to the 2500 series. What are people's thoughts on this. Once again thanks for the help.
