I have a friend that moved to the country for the first this last winter and planted a garden this spring. He has lost all his green beans to groundhogs. They snipped them off the first time, he tilled and replanted, and they gnawed them to the ground again. I know about groundhogs and beans. Now he says he is seeing the squirrels carrying his unripened tomatoes up in to the trees. Has anyone ever heard of squirrels doing this?

yep. my mom tried to grow a few toms in hear urban yard for years and gave up after 4-5 years of attempts after every green tom got robbed by a **** limb rat every year. (despite my dads best attempt to keep them at bay with a pellet gun)

I didn't know that squirrels would do this. All my friend has left now is his sweet corn. I'm sure the raccoons and deer will be hard on his corn when it is ready.

Since my property was a former pecan orchard we have squirrels a'plenty.

Our squirrels pick our tomatoes and then sit on our porch railings eating them. They chew the tops off the pears and let them fall on the ground then start on the next one. They run away with the peaches before they get ripe. They chew up the bottom of the mirliton vine killing the whole vine of mirlitons. They only eat the very best plums that the birds didn't peck on. They get in the sheds and cause more damage than rats then they chase the cats away.......

I hate squirrels

i hear goundhogs and squirrels like havahart traps followed by the pellet gun. they both make a nice treat for the foxes. gophers like apples and squirrels like chunky peanut butter.

I mostly use 22 cbs on them but I can hide in my barn and shoot them out the windows about 10' away with 22 bird shot.

Even if I get one a day it doesn't seem to diminish the population.

They were hear first. We use wire to protect our Garden. My wife is a shut in and She enjoys watching the Ground hogs play.

My neighbor reports that the cayotes ate his corn. Of course we have raccoons, deer, turkey, squirrels, etc. too.

We used to think squirrels were "cute" when they'd go get a tomatoe. All the sudden one year, they started raping the plants leaving NOTHING for us. We now actively shoot squirrels and no longer have that problem.
