Came here looking for info on buying/building a workshop type garage. Probably a steel building....Olympia, Lester, Morton etc.....

:welcome: I went with a standard pole barn type unit 30x40 1 walk thru door 2 8' roll up and 1 10' roll up for the tractor. Cement floor I ran electric, phone and water out to it but so far am just using the electric. I have been happy with it and yes it is a very basic unit. The only thing I wish I had built it bigger I have enough room but could always use more. The Oaks Sign 002.jpg

Welcome to TBN. I also built my first garage 24x24 and promptly filled it up. Then added an 18x32 pole barn addition and filled that. No experience with the companies mentioned, just get as big as you can.

Probably wouldn't have made any difference.:D You know us humans always fill whatever space is available. I had a 40' x 60' shop and a 30' x 40' barn down in the country, and sometimes needed a little more.

Mine were wood framed, metal skinned building, with the shop having a concrete floor, and electricity to both buildings. I had one water faucet inside the barn, but only outside the shop.

Pole barns are all over the place in terms of features and costs. I have a friend that has a Morton that probably cost 500K. But if I had his money, I could throw mine away. Basicall you get what you pay for. And 5 years later, it isn't big enough...:)

Welcome !! If you read many of the other new barn posts, you may want to check with your local zoning and building department first to see what can be built and what permits are required per structure size and location. See if you will have to pull permits or if the builder will handle this portion of the build. Good luck.

Good advice about building bigger than what you think you need. I built a 30x30 concrete floored shop with a 10x12 leanto sides on each side (10 foot of one side is for bathroom on one side). I use the bathroom area to store my oil in and a few other items. I filled it up in a year then built a 14 x 30 on the back side with a 14 x 20 washdown concrete pad outside. It is also full now. I don't have anywhere else to add on to this building now so I just have to live with cramming all the mowers, boat etc in the back room now and try to keep open some area to work in on my shop. So now it is 52 wide x 44 deep and still way too small.
