I have worked with diesel tractors in the past that were owned by other and always put the fuel they brought to the job in the tractor. I now own a B-7500 and was wondering what type of fuel is best. I've been told that Kubota has designed their engines to run on highway diesel and i've been told by a mechanic at my dealership not to use it. The mechanic recommended that i use off road fuel or railroad diesel. I know this fuel is cheaper but what is better for my tractor. All input is appreciated.
Thanks, Joe

It doesn't matter all diesel fuel is the same anymore whether it is off-road or on-road. They used to be different but not anymore. The only difference is that the off-road has the red dye added to it. That is the only difference.

BTW the only reason that it's cheaper is because it doesn't have the road taxes on it. At the gas station they just take the price of the fuel and subtract the taxes and that is what you pay.

If you have the owners manual, I think you'll find the info in there. My B2910, as did my B2400, calls for #2 diesel under most cases, with #1 prefered for extreem cold. The max sulphur content is 0.5% which means off-road, aka farm diesel is fine to use, as is highway diesel. If it says the max sulphur is 0.05%, then you should only use highway diesel, but I don't think that's what you'll find.

If the specs for the B7500 are the same as my B2910, you can use diesel from any gas station or use farm diesel to save a quarter or so per gallon. Any one of them is fine to use.

Be careful. Off road fuel doesn't need to meet EPA regs for sulphur content and hence can have 10x the sulphur. You may very well be correct, but strictly on a case by case basis depending on the dealer, distributor etc. I don't think you can make the blanket assumption that off road fuel meets the EPA regs.

The good news is that from what I can tell it doesn't matter anyway since the Kubota's I've looked at are fine with either fuel.
