Well folks my blue Polly blue barrel is not going to work. Was filling yesterday and local cop advised me it was not legal in the city where I fuel even though the barrel is fuel storage rated. Was told I need a proper metal tank. Recheck with state and I am iffy there too. So started looking for a 50-55 gallon tank. I found the following at TSC
Delta Steel Transfer Tank, 5 gal. - For Life Out Here $299 plus tax
Dee Zee Transfer Tank, 55 gal. Safety Fill Capacity - For Life Out Here $549 plus tax

Then on amazon
Amazon.com: Dee Zee DZ9175 Square Transfer Tank - Aluminum: Automotive the 549 tank above for $351 and free shipping This is my current favorite.
Amazon.com: Dee Zee DZ9175S Square Transfer Tank - White Steel: Automotive

Amazon.com: Delta 485 Steel Liquid Transfer Tank: Automotive same tank TSC sell for less. Reviews not so good.

For the $50 extra I am leaning to the aluminum. This will be mounted on a plastic pallet for easy moving. It will also fit my truck bed with the 5th wheel hitch for traveling too.

Thoughts on the brands and my choices.
Thanks - Keith

Check out RDS tanks: RDS Transfer Fuel Tanks

Contact them and see if their is a local dealer. Then you can buy one of their tanks for a good price and get free shipping if you wait for their normal shipping schedules (ships with everything else).

Good luck!

gas or diesel?

tool box with or without?

hose management?

hand crank or 12v?

everything at or below top edge of bed?

cheapest you can find?

For the 55 gallon drum consideration. I had two drums, one a used oil drum, the other a drum for methyl alcohol. After a few years, the oil drum was still good. Its internal coating was still standing up to diesel. The other drum WAS bright metal at first, the condensation caused it to rust badly and contaminate the fuel with rust flakes.

Lesson: use coated drums for fuel

I have a full fuel pump and filter set up for this, Just deciding on the tank to get. Barrels apparently are not allowed for transport of fuel here in the back of a pickup.

got caught with not having a double lined container, and yada yada goverment approve label. i see?

good amount of units on craiglist half the cost if not maybe a bit more cheaper. some of the L tanks for back of truck beds have, "hooks" to toss a chain on. so you can use FEL bucket or like, and lift them in/out of the truck bed. not sure how the hooks would hold up to full tank of fuel.

getting some additional hits on google with key terms

transfer fuel tank 100

Well folks - after checking Craig's list and reviewing all my options, I decided to go with this tank and not worry about rust. Amazon.com: Dee Zee DZ9175 Square Transfer Tank - Aluminum: Automotive. I also called DeeZee and it is DOT rated for diesel fuel. Its size is perfect for my needs and it will easily bolt to the plastic pallet I have for transport. It also lite enough to move when empty.

I'll post a few pictures once I have it set up and everything moved over from my barrel.

Just make sure you can adequately secure that pallet to the bed. Don't want it to easy to move. Gets exciting in the not so good way when cornering or braking aggesivly.

I found a nice looking aluminum fuel tank of about 50g capacity on craigslist and picked it up a week or so ago, for $40.

I'm trying to figure out how to clean it properly, and wondering if a gravity feed will push fuel through a filter reasonably to fill up a tractor (like, if I put it up on a stand say 10' high). Just one of many projects... anyways, there are often fuel tanks available on my local craigslist for a lot less than $300. Not necessarily convenient as a truck's extra or transfer tank, but for home refills, maybe.
