Hi, I'm planning on changing the fuel filter, but I am unable to locate the fuel shut off on the Max 28XL (Mitsu 3cyl engine). Is there one? If so, can you tell me where it is? Thanks!

There wasn't one on my 1538 so maybe you don't have one either. Remove the filter and what fuel is in the tank drains out. Either catch the fuel or run the tank very low before changing the filter or filters. Mine had two a prefilter and a final. The pre filter uses a cheap replaceable paper element but the 2nd filter is a more costly Bosh spin on type. The 1st filter was the lowest and lower than the tank while the 2nd was higher up so it wouldn't drain the whole tank if it were removed. Again that's on a 1538 but they may be similar.
Thanks, Dick. I think you're right. I just pulled the feeder line going into the lower filter and drained the fuel into a can. A little tedious, but it works. It's surprising that the operators manual tells you to inspect and potentially clean the clear cup daily, but they don't give you a shut off valve to make it easier. Oh well. Thanks for the reply.

On the bottom of my first filter can there is an 8 or 10mm drain plug where you can pull a sample to check for water. However on mine you have to remove the left side cover to access the bolt.
It's a pretty pisspoor design but Mahindra seems not to give service aspects much thought.
I've been thinking of adding a bowl and drain and incorporate a shut off into mine. I might also relocate the moisture sensor there so it can be of some value while I'm at it. Where it is now it tells you only after it's too late that you have a problem with your fuel.

There is a shut off built into the top of the filter assembly. Unscrew the bowl and a plunger drops shutting off the fuel to the bowl. There is nothing to do but remove the bowl. Its a real slick design. Be sure you replace the small o ring on the top of the filter as the new filter doesn't come with one.

The fuel shut off is built into the housing, when you unscrew the bowl the fuel will shut off.

My MAX28XL HST came to a not so quick slowdown. The fuel filter developed some sort of slime in the bowl and filter. I'm about 75 miles from my Mahindra guy, so I decided to check with NAPA. Woo, Woo, the filter is is stock! NAPA gold #3830 for $11.38. It comes with the center small "O" ring. You need a "corkscrew" type of device to remove the filter from the housing. It is almost press fit.
