I have under 300 hrs. on my Kioti CK25 and for the third time when I revved it high in road gear white smoke came billowing out, the engine losses power and knocks like crazy. The last two times the dealer told me its the fuel pump leaking fuel into the oil and the increased oil pressure then pushes oil in and fires. They changed the fuel pump both times. The pump isn't all that expensive but when you figure in an unnecessary oil change and the labour to boot, it gets expensive every 100 hrs or so. The first time it happened was just out of warranty but Kioti wouldn't consider it. Anyone else have this problem? I'm wondering if it isn't the actual pump itself but possibly a problem with the seal or something. Love the tractor otherwise.

How many hours went between the three problems?

If it was me, Id try another dealer. Or go from mechanical pump to electric pump, if possible?

The dealer's story doesn't make sense and his attempts to fix it don't seem to be working. Oil in the fuel does not increase oil pressure and high oil pressure does not force fuel into the combustion chambers.

Find another dealer and charge the first one for the repair when it gets done tight. Fat chance of them paying it though.

This sounds eerily like a head gasket.

White smoke indicates water is entering the combustion chamber...

White smoke can also indicate raw fuel is entering the exhaust...bad injectors, etc.

Very true!

The thing that stuck out to me is this problem only presents at high rpm then sustained compression come to mind... He really needs to have someone else look at this to find the root cause.....

Hiya,

White smoke out of a Diesel at high RPM/full throttle can be an indicator of a plugged fuel filter. If the equipment has seen low temps with untreated fuel there is a chance that the fuel "clouded" and that the paraffin solidified and was caught by the filter and that is now causing a restriction. I have had fuel filters plug on me going down the road, they act the same way, throw tons of white smoke and loose power. One thing that will cause truckloads of fuel related issues is algae, also known as "black snot". If you have any, make sure you get a bactericide and treat every bit of fuel you have. The black snot will cause damage to your high pressure fuel system components and plug your filters quickly.

I would start troubleshooting with the mindset that fuel delivery is the issue. Start at the fuel tank cap and make sure its vent is open, then look to flow from the tank pickup, the screen may be blocked, Check for a collapsed hoses, Also check the return line, make sure that is clear, then look at the water separator/screen, then primary filter, then pump, then secondary filter and if equipped, the screen in the inlet of the high pressure injector pump. I think you'll find an issue in one of those components. Oh, ya, change your dealer or find an independent tech for your repairs, Make sure you treat your fuel for low temps and lubricity, I won't get into brands as it will just start a flame war, if you want to know what I use, PM me.

My 2 cents,

Tom

Sounds like your dealer doesn't know what is wrong and is just swapping parts at your expense. Definitely find someone else to check it.

Having dealt with algae fuel in marine applications I can tell you the best solution is to drain the bad fuel out immediately if that is the problem. Dont' treat it, get rid of it.
