Fuel guage inop????

My bobcat 643 fuel guage doesn't work! Does anyone know what guage I can swap in or do I need to just get a Clarke guage?

Sure it is the guage? or is it the tank sendor. Locate the sendor and with key on short the 2 wires together if guage goes to full with wires shorted and empty wires disconnected the guage is fine, sendor is bad.

So I do this on the back of the guage or at the sending unit... Please explain how to do this...

Do it at the sending unit.
If guage is reading empty or low now and is tank is full - use a piece of wire or paper clip and short the 2 wires together. Guage should go to full.

Key on. That's when guage is supposed to work.

Well key on or off no different in fuel gauge reading other than empty and yes it has fuel almost full tank..So gauge I guess?
Also while I had the cab up I cleaned up years of grime and sludge from the drive motors,main pump and all the valves under it... Filled a box 10x10x8" full of crap!!!

At the guage will 2 wires. The red or red w/white should have 12 volts with key on, check for voltage. The purple goes to ground throught the sending unit. - If you have 12 volts at 1 post touch a ground wire to the other, if guage doesn't move replace the guage.
