I am contemplating pulling out the fuel filter since some here have suggested that it might be responsible for my throttle problems. I was cautioned strongly about any fuel line service since it is supposed to be difficult to re-prime the system, but if you read the manual, it's as easy as turning the key to "on" for 30 seconds. Is this your experience or am I missing something?

Can I just pull out the fuel filter, do what I need to do, replace it and turn the key to "on" for 30s and be good to go? And, if it's that easy, why all the cautions about not running out of gas?

I replaced the fuel filter at the engine last year without much problem. If I remember correctly, I had the hardest time pulling the fuel lines out of the filter attachement. I didn't get much leakage from the loose ends - I did one at a time and made sure to get the end plugged into the new filter as quick a possible. The tractor started fine with no issues.

There's another filter underneath the tracter near the fuel tank - I didn't feel like potentially getting a faceful of diesel so I left it alone :D

On the BXs , that filter under the floor is the first filter to plug up especially with water, I use two large hemostats to clamp the line on each side of the filter before I take the line loose and I only get a dribble of fuel, some comes out of the filter though. I have over 600 hours on mine and stil have the original filter under the hood. You can also use vise grips to clamp the line before and after the filter, just don't clamp them very tight, just enough to stop the flow, and I've never had a problem restarting after changing the filter, sometimes after it starts there may be a little stumbling for a few seconds then it clears up, have never had to bleed the lines or any thing else.
One other thing, the band that goes around the filter, has the bolt that holds it, with the head on top between the band and the floor board, it was close to get at, but with a wrench I was able to get it out and when I put it back on, I reversed it and put the head of the bolt on the bottom so it would be easier to get loose the next time. Hope this helps. You'll certainly have a feeling of acomplishment when you get it finished and fire it up. I used the Fram GF 2 filters from Wal-Mart and use the same hose that is on the machine.

I had the BX22 and I just removed the filters, glowed and started. Going to do the samething on the 24 too.

Thanks for the tips. Sounds like it's not that big a deal to do.

Milkman - Fram? I didn't realize that there were aftermarket filters for anything on the BX. And I didn't think that Fram made very good filters. Any other brands that you know of?

I use the Fram fuel filter on a bunch of gasoline applications with no problems. Not sure I would trust them on a diesel though, don't know if they are rated for diesel fuel. The genuine Kubota filters aren't that high- about $6, the Frams at WalMart are about $3. Can't find a dang thing on Frams site about their fuel filters other than the G2 is labeled as a gasoline filter- For a $3 difference I don't think I'd risk it personally but thats just me

I gave you the wrong # on the gas filter, it should have been G12, if you don't want to use the F word filter, you can cross it to what ever brand you like, and the F word oil filter for the BX is PH3593A, the same filter that fits my Honda, the same with that, use what ever brand you like, I'm not pushing Fram, just posting those #s because that is what I've been using for years, despite the opinions expressed by some, I've had no problem with them.

The Fram G12 is listed on Fram's site as a cross to > Taa daaa- the filter on the BX series:D Their info is way out of date showing a Kubota part that has been superseded by another part number that is used on the BXs, even though they show it only fits a Kubota T1600H.
The G2, previously referenced, appears to be the identical filter but there may be some difference as it isn't shown as a cross:confused:

my local parts store crossed the BX fuel filter part number to a hastings (HAST GF2), Fram (PG2) or AC (GF61). it's metal and comes with it's own compression clamps and two short sections of rubber tubing (in case your fuel line is solid metal pipe) for about $2.62.

going to try it out asap as am having symptoms of clogging.

Only thing with the metal one is you can't see when its used up or when it has water in it.
