Kubota B2100HST and John Deere Model G (1938)
Hey Y'all. I'm a TBN Virgin, so be gentle. I purchased a used 1999 Kubota B2100HST in March 2011 with 663 hours on the tractor. I got a great deal on it. It wasn't in perfect condition cause it had some dents in the hood from fire woo falling backward off the FEL ..... but it ran strong and the tractor had been split apart to fix some hydraulic issues at around 500 hrs. so i assumed it been taken care of. The moral here:NEVER ASSUME when buying a used tractor. I finally got around to changing the fuel filter today, and there was some gunk in the bottom of the fuel bowl. (picture two large pinches of salt to equate to the amount of gunk in the bottom of the bowl). my machine was running fine, but i had decided to check it out anyway..... the fuel filter was rough looking

too. i estimate the fuel filter had not been changed in about two years/ 200 hrs, and i am very aware this way past the service interval of the machine.(clean every 50 hrs, replace every 100) . The filter and the bowl are skweeeky clean now after some TIC from yours truely. One question for the veterans on TBN: How much will this effect the life of my engine? How much earlier will I have to do some injector work? My main concern is keeping my machine running smoothly as possible for as long as possible, so on new equipment I own i go slightly over the top when following maintenance schedules. Thanks advance to the knowledge out here on TBN. ----Smiles

My B7100 had gunk in the bottom of the bowl and on the filter when I got the tractor. I changed the filter and cleaned things, and it hasn't missed a lick. I think that what I had was some algea. Diesel engines are tough- I'm sure that yours isn't the first, or the last, to have gunk in the filter. It was on the outside of the filter, so it probably didn't get through to the pump or injectors. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks Hodge, makes me feel better about the gunky filter. Happy tractoring. --- Smiles

Looks plenty dirty. And, is why for a used machine, I change everything. Especially on a smaller tractor like the B2100; engine/fuel/air/hst filters, engine oil, hydro oil, front axle and final drive oil, coolant... Then, clean and grease every zerk fitting on the tractor.

Then at least you know the condition and can start your own maintenance schedule based on the factory manual.

Those fuel filters are cheap; you may want to get a spare, in case there is more gunk in the tank. In fact, I might even drain and flush that tank. Simple and inexpensive to do...

Draining and flushing the tank is a great idea, i hadn't considered that, but it makes alot of sense. i actually have two spare fuel filters on deck (now).... and will be doing the other fluid and filter changes before any more operating time.... thanks alot for the help. ---Smiles

Don't worry too much, that is not the worst one of those i have looked at. Certainly it is very good to have it off and replaced...My cartridge has an amount of water mixed witht he fuel when i took it off? I did flush my tank with clean fuel, additive,{powerstroke} and filtered all of it back in.
