I am trying to replace the fuel cell solenoid ,I cannot access the old wiring harness that goes back through the firewall and i presume to the switch it has what amounts to a 3 pt plug I have tried every thing but its such close quarters that if I get the old one unpluged Im afraid I would never get the new one pluged up. I was hoping mabe some one knows a shortcut or some obvious solution Im not familar with .
Thanks drenuf

A pic or two of what you are dealing with would help. Maybe someone who has accessed this area will chime in too.
Can you carefully pull the wiring harness back through the firewall to reach the connector for the fuel shutoff solenoid?
The jdparts pic shows just a short lead to the connector. How long is the old one vs. the length of the new one? item #4

Thaks again for your response , I have the drawings ,Ihave put some pressure on the wiring harness trying to pull it to where i could access it but to no avail ,I didnt want to just start jerking with force , but I have to say I wasd tempted . The new one is about 10 in I would assume the old one is the same.
Thanks drenuf

Assuming we are talking about the fuel shutoff solenoid,

Fuel Shutoff Solenoid Test
Reason:
To verify that the solenoid coils are operating properly.
Equipment:
Ohmmeter or continuity tester
Voltmeter
Procedure:
1. Park machine safely in neutral with park brake locked.
2. Raise hood and remove right engine side cover

3. Disconnect fuel shutoff solenoid connector (A).

4. Use an ohmmeter or continuity tester, check if continuity
exists between all solenoid terminals.
Results:
If resistance does not meet specifications, replace fuel
shutoff solenoid (B).
Fuel Shutoff Solenoid Continuity:
C to D . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.5 ohms
C to E . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 23.5 ohms
D to E . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 23.5 ohms

Short to Case Test
1. Check for grounds or shorts by connecting tester to one
coil terminal and the other to bare metal of coil case.
Results:
Replace fuel shutoff coil if continuity is present.
Audibility Test:
1. Connect fuel shutoff solenoid connector (A).
2. Listen for click when fuel shutoff solenoid pulls in when:
Operator on seat and transmission selection lever in
neutral position and PTO off;
or:
Operator off seat with park brake locked and
transmission selection lever in neutral position and PTO off;
Results:
If click is NOT heard during each of these conditions,
replace fuel shutoff solenoid.

I had the same problem several months back. Not a certified mechanic, but I cleaned the plunger mechanism on the existing solenoid by spraying starter fluid directly into the solenoid, thereby freeing it to move unencumbered in both directions. Worked immediately, and haven't had a problem since. Saved me from your exact problem, which I couldn't figure out either.
