How do you replace your shear bolt on this cutter? Do you work with the shield cone in place or remove it? It is kind of awkward trying to tighten the bolt with the cone in the way. I have model RC2048.

The whole replacing a shear pin in the field can be a pain on that model. You need to keep more tools with/near you (punch, hammer, file , extra pins,etc). Then there is the time it takes for replacing them. I have a slip clutch on mine but was wondering if you or someone can drill holes(whole saw type) in both sides of shield for easier access with-out it cracking or weakening shield structure. Maybe putting rubber groumets in holes made in pto shield with heavy-duty type glue around where you cut holes to keep from running or cracking. Just some thoughts.

I'll be interested to hear what you did. Think I recall having to cut the shield back on my LX-4 that I had on the 4010 to get at the shear bolt. Shield is just plastic, and you can cut some of it at front and back without affecting its function much.

The LX-4 and the RC-2048 seem almost identical. Haven't even used the RC yet because I need a tree cut to get down to my trails. Guy is coming tomorrow to cut the tree. Then I'll suit up (as protection against any yellow jackets this time of year) and go down and do the trails. Been too wet up to this point to even try doing the trails.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, I was wondering if it was just me. I am going to take some of this advice under consideration.
