After a lot of beating the bushes I was able to by a new (old stock) Frontier GM1072 Finish Mower. It must have been manufactured by Woods because it has Woods stamped on the gearbox, so I assume it is the same as the Woods PRD7200???

Looks really stout, comes with a front anti scalp roller and solid tires. Is this a Woods PRD7200 in Deere green?

Is this as good of a mower as I hope it is?

Thanks

I purchased a GM1072R rear discharge mower 6 years ago and have never been sorry I purchased it. I use it to mower 6.5 acres and my speed is 4.7 MPH when cutting. The only problem is that on the wheel brackets that attach to deck the bolts broke and I replaced them with grade 8 bolts from TSC. One person on the site indicated they over greased the spindles and grease came out and got on the belt and caused some problems.

I do avoid backing up and instead go around in circle, if I miss a spot. If you go to the site provided and enter GM1072 you can download a copy of the operators manual.

Thanks for the information, do you know if yours is built by Woods?

Thanks again.

Mine has WOODS on the gear box, so I assume it was made by Woods and then painted green. Looking at the PDR7200, the 2 look the same and the manuals for the 2 are the same.

I think it is a woods PDR7200, and I am really happy that is the case. Everything I've read about the Woods is that is top of the line. Thanks for the info!

Are the areas you mow smooth or rough? I have heard that the mower handles rougher terrain a little better than other mowers because of the spring wheel setup,

All most all of my mowing is smooth and for the most part flat. There are different degrees of rough, but if what you are cutting is rough/uneven there is an option of a wheel that goes on the front to keep the front from digging in. There is also an option for skid plates that can be put on the sides.

How the mower connects to the draft links helps keep the tractor from lifting/pushing down on the mower as you move along. If your tractor has a float option on the draft links also I would make use of that.

If you are talking about the spring that is on the yoke with shaft that the tire is mounted on. I do not think that little spring will help much on rough ground.

Hope this answers your question.

Thankfully the mower is coming with the front anti scalp roller, Ill have to check on the float option, not sure if it does or not.

Thanks again
