frontier disk mowers dm5070

I have been all over the different forums trying to get some info on frontier Disk mowers. I 'm on the edge of buying one new and can't find out any reports on the longevity or how people have liked or disliked them. I called around and I did find out there are not many that carry blades for them. So that tells me there must not be many out there. I called 3 different JD dealers and they don't even have them. They have to order them from Tarter. If someone out there has a DM50?0 let me know how you like it and what you do for knives. Just trying not to make a mistake. Thanks for your input. Anyone have anything made by tarter? Hows it made to last?

Tarter makes alot of 3point equipment for tractor supply, as well as 3point equipment for deeres frontier line.

I can't comment on how good they actually are, but the one I looked at NEW on a Deere lot looked cheaply made and had a wooden swath board/rod.

I own three Frontier DM 1160 mowers. They are the old Kuhn design, even orange paint under the green. The blades can be found most anywhere around here, 44007 and 44006 if memory serves me.

There are better disk mowers out there KUHN, Kubota, Hesston (MF) and others. Have you looked at them? Also be sure to match your HP up. I went with a KUN drum mower over the disk due to HP limitations. Check with Webbs Sickle Service for knives. You may be able to find a used one. Also check with an AGG rental place for used equipment or recommendations.

Just offering options - hope you dont mind.

I don't mind that's why I ask. I can't look at any up here because one up here sells them. Only NH had one and he wanted over $13,000 while the one down in Washington was $7250. NH was 7ft and the 5070 was 9 ft cut. the NH weight was like the others you mention and were about 300 t0 400 lbs heavier so they must be stronger. For the cut and price I have to go with the frontier and I will take it easy on her. will cost me $1000 in gas plus risk to go and get it but I like the drive. It is my idea of a vacation. it's only 4500 miles round trip only real problem is crossing the rockies this time of year still a lot of ice and snow possible.

The "cheap" NH mowers are/were priced similar to the Frontier ones. (HM234, HM235, HM236) Economy Disc Mowers - Overview | Haytools ＆ Spreaders | New Holland (US) | NHAG

They aren't are heavy or "nice" as the HD series but NH website shows a 5 disc to be about $8600

I've run a HM235 for 6 seasons now, we got it new and ran it on a 42 PTO HP tractor (pic in avatar) so weight was a big thing. No big issues so far, grease, knives etc.

If I where shopping for dependability and ease of repair service I would want a Drum Mower. Yes, you might sacrifice some on width of cut. I own a smaller drum mower and it's been the best piece of hayin' machinery I own. I don't do big acreage so, production isn't a concern. I've watch some of the farmers disc mower rebuilds Youtube videos and I have nightmares now about working on one those with all the gears and busted gear cases and then wake and remember "Oh, I don't have one of those". bjr

There are probably other dealers too. All should be able to ship for less than you can drive. Also Dealer Locator - Locate Kubota Tractor Dealers Near You for a Kubota dealer.

My guess is just about every good manufacturer has one closer than you think.
