Is the Frontier 1072 worth buying, or is it junk?

Generally frontier makes pretty good stuff. The first two numbers "10" are their designation of duty level. 10 being the lightest version of whatever 6' implement you are referring to (several of their light duty 6' implement have the 1072 designation and the letters describe what they are). I prefer to buy a heavy enough duty that I don't have to worry about tearing it up or prematurely wearing it out. If that pushes it over my budget I buy used.

Curious as to why the 1072? If you go to the JD website (residential -> attachments) then view the "mowing & cutting" attachments on the "attachments for Utility Tractors" page, selecting "View Attachments For" for your 5054D is only shows the RC20 series as a choice. Oddly enough, if you go for "all models" it doesn't show the RC10 series at all .

I did a search on RC1072, and it only showed up in a "implement compatibility chart", but this chart did not list the 2072?? Sounds like even Deere is a little confused on what to get :confused2:. I wonder if they are moving away from the RC1072?

At 45 HP, I think I'd look at something beyond light duty, so look at the 2072 and the MX6.

As mentioned, it is light duty. That may be just fine for you if flat, even fields need cutting.
But some want to use them to also level their land, and end up tearing them up a bit.

My JD513 RC wasn't real heavy duty, and I had to do some reinforcing of the rear of the deck because I brush hog in reverse to back into edges of heavy brush, over rock piles, and ditch edges. The rear of the deck wasn't made to be a bulldozer, so I had 1" square tubing welded on the lower edge. It has worked great ever since.

May have to do some things like this, depending on your use and conditions.

Unlike my tractor choice,I did not do a lot of research on rotary cutters.I talked with the dealer and he seemed to think that cutter was a good choice for my tractor.Maybe he misled me a bit!I had been entertaining the idea of Woods cutter.Maybe would have been a better choice.I can still get ouyt of the cutter if I choose and maybe that would be a good idea.I have a 5' king cutter and it seems to be good quality. It has seen alot of use with no problems.I guess the cutter was an impulse buy because I could get it w/ the tractor with 0 percent interest.
