It is not too difficult, I snapped the shaft that runs out to the wheel in my left hub a year or so ago.
1. Jack up that side and put it on a jack stand.
2. Remove the wheel.
3. There is a small square headed plug on the bottom inside to drain the gear oil.
4. Right behind the flange that the wheel bolts to, there are 8 housing bolts to remove.
5. Once you remove those you will have to tap on it to free the housing. It is kinda heavy, as it has the shaft, some spacer washers and snap rings, inner and outer bearings and the final gear.
If you broke the shaft, you will need that part, I would also replace the outer bearing as it probably got stressed rolling with a broken shaft. If this happened, the seal is probably toast as well. Also replace the snap ring, and the spacers if they appear worn. Pay attention to what is stacked where on the shaft.
A hydraulic press will help here to assemble/disassemble.
Basically the shaft comes into the case past the seal then thru the outer bearing and spacer. Then a snapring goes on and snaps into a groove(that groove is right where my shaft broke
). The gear slides on and part of it's housing rides up and over covering the snapring locking it in place. That snapring and the outer bearing holds the shaft in the housing. After the gear comes the inner bearing. The stack and spacing is important as that determines the gear engagement/backlash. That is a good thing to check before final assembly by the way. Spray some spraypaint on the gear teeth, let dry and re-insert the outer assembly and bolt together. Roll the hub thru several revolutions and remove the housing. the wear in he spraypaint should be in the middle of the gear teeth. If it is near one end or the other, the spacing may be an issue.
Use carb/choke cleaner to remove the paint and to flush out the metal powder and dirt from the housing out thru the oil drain and re-assemble...
That is it for the outer shaft area. If it is a problem further in, you will have to disassemble the upper and lower halvs of the pivot housing to get at that, sorry I havn't been in there yet
