I checked the axle oil and it was at least a full inch below the check hole. I just changed it 25hrs ago, 50 hr mark, with kubota udt, and see no signs of a leak. When I put the udt in I did it slowly to allow it to seep into the hubs, or at least I thought I did. I can't remember if it took exactly the amount the manual states or not, but I dumped it in until it poured out of the fill hole.

What the heck did I do wrong?

And how bad was it to put 25hrs on it and at least 1/2 of those hours in 4wd being that low?

Also, I have no udt left, can I just put in a compatible hydro oil in to top it off?

This has not been a good weekend for me......

Some times (most of the time) the oil doesn't get distributed properly until you drive it a bit or wait. There may be air pockets when initially filled. You will probably be OK.

Not sure if "I" would mix the oil's if you're using Kubota's UDT - but I'm not a Kubota expert. The only thing Kubota I own is a snow blower.

Use any UDT, I doubt you hurt anything.

When my front end on my 4150 exploded, the Kubota dealer rebuilt it and only added oil to the trans axle (up top) not each lower drive unit. It ran dry for about and hour until I heard it squeeking and found the trans axle over filled and the lower ones empty.

Kubota dealer tore it down, we checked everything and it was fine after adding oil.

How much did it cost to repair when your front end exploded? I'm afraid mine might have today. :( It still seems okay in 2wd but when I put it in 4wd it makes some popping noises and lurches! :(

Mine had a bolt break in the front lower unit, which promptly tried to squeeze itself though a ring and pinion of sorts. When it did it blew the case apart on the front-end down behind the wheel. Required a new case, new bearing seals etc... I had them do more than it needed, though. Also had them tear down the other side to check that one.

I think it was $1400 or so, but it took 4 weeks to get the parts. Kubota's parts are delivered via the donkey express from Japan. They said it was a bolt defect, nothing that I had done or could have prevented, the bolt head sheared off and dropped into the ring and gear.

Wengers has some used parts online. May be worth checking there as they'd be a heck of a lot cheaper and faster. Wenger's of Myerstown - Farm Equipment, Agriculture Equipment, Tractor Parts, Construction Equipment, Construction Parts

Not to hi jack this thread, but if I understand this right , It will answer another thread I had posted.
on my machine there is a fill plug on the final drive casing. You fill till it comes out this one, and the "top" end or axle housing oil also slowly comes down and they both mix, all is sealed by the main seal that is on the axle housing casting base. (main swivel seal) so to speak.??
Thanks

I'll bet there was still oil slinging around in the front axle.. even if a bit low. Not ideal.. but I doubt it's done noticeable damage.

You think that's bad a buddy of mine put 4qts in his ft. axle after he had well over 200hrs since he last serviced it.

I had told him to chek his ft. axle after reading here it takes awhile for the oil to drain into all the little nooks and crannys, this was last year and his is still ok.

The BX24 service manual says to wait 10 minutes after filling the front axle then check it again. I need to look at mine because they mention "vent plugs" on top of the axles to remove after draining and before filling. If they really are vents I may have contaminated my oil because I have had the front end stuck in mud up to the frame:eek:
