Hello,

When I open the cap to check the oil level on my front axle, I don't see a gauge. (Branson 4720h)

Can someone who has the gauge mesure it from the bottom of the cap and indicate me the min and max levels ? I can "build" a custom gauge with any chopstick, but I need to know the recommanded levels.

Thanks
Michel

The dipstick is on the other axle housing. It's in the same position as the fill cap on the right hub but is a large hex. Mine is painted yellow.

Ah ah, I will check that asap...
You're probably right although it is exactly the opposite as what says the manual (in French, "to find the gauge, open the red filler cap on the right side of the axle"... in reality, it is probably the yellow bolt at the left side of the tractor !) ...and I wonder how they can be silly enough to force the use of a tool juste to check a level while there is a simple cap on the other side ! :-0

Did you check both sides? One would think that both plugs would be the same but as I recall they aren't and I forget which if not both my Bransons are that way.

If nobody answers you, if you have oil up to the middle of the axle that's plenty. Gear boxes usually run about half full and the rotating gears sling the oil to places needed.....if in doubt, check the gearbox on most every rotary mower (Brush Hog type machine). The fill is obviously on the top and the full plug is about half way up the side of the gear box casting.

Gearboxes on tractors (tranny and diff) are the same. My Fords don't have a dipstick, they have plugs and they are about half way up the side of the respective casting with fill on top.
