I am in need of a 4wd compact tractor, and am trying to educate myself on the pros/cons, ins/outs of the gray market. Am I right to assume that Yanmars are generally the better gray market tractor? As a Yanmar owner, would I have the benefit of the greater collective experience of other Yanmar owners through such places as this forum?(as opposed to say mistubishi, iseki, hinomoto, etc.) Are parts, manuals, and service generally easier to come by for the Yanmar? I guess you get my point.

I have certainly gathered that there are some reputable dealers out there and some who would take advantage of those whe don't know any better.

I am located in western North Carolina, and there are a couple of outfits within a 2 hour drive. Has anyone here had any experience with Corriher Implement Company (aka. OK Used Tractors) in Newton, NC?

I would like to buy from someone who is closer to home for obvious reasons, but I would consider driving out of state to buy from a dealer with good recommendations if people have had problems with the local guys.

Feel free to respond confidentially to my e-mail address if you wish.

Thanks!

I hope I can help a little bit. I had a Yanmar 1702d before I bought my Kubota BX22 (also forsale!) and loved it! I had no trouble with it for the two hundred hours I owned it so I didn't need any parts. A couple of the guys on this board can get you whatever you may need though. I bought mine in Emporia, Virginia which is just north of the N.C line. I can't remember the name of the dealer but it is ______ equipment located in Emporia. They were nice any easy to deal with. I did have one question and I left them a message. They got back to me the next day and explained everything. It was a dumb question to begin with and I won't humiliate myself by telling you what it was. Most of all. Don't worry about what the paint looks like. Some will just put a fresh coat of paint and clearcoat over everything and say it has been rebuilt. Make sure it has no leaks etc. Good luck and enjoy your new tractor!

Crog,
I would not say that Yanmar is the better tractor but they are the most common. Parts, manuals, etc. are usually easier to get for a Yanmar than most of the other gray market machines. If you send me your address I will give you a copy of our little tractor guide booklet. It has some things to look for when you are buying a used tractor as well as some pros and cons of the gray market tractors.

I have owned two Yanmars and they were good tractors. I now have a 1401(16 hp) with several attachments. I have found that parts are readily available through several outlets including the net. Parts such as filters can usually be gotten from NAPA stores.

I deal mostly in Yanmars. I have had very good results. I am widening my brands due to Yanmar's new parts policy. There is not as much information out there about the other brands, but from what I am gathering so far they are as good as Yanmar and with some research, they can be a good tractor to have. If you are mechanically inclined and willing to do some looking, any of the greys as far as brand can be a good useful tool.

This is what I " have heard". Martin Diesel has taken over Yanmars US parts. They will only furnish parts that have US tractor part numbers. That will cover a lot of what we use. Any part without a US part number will have to come from Japan. If that is the way it will be handled, I figure I will start researching the other brands since the parts will be about as easy to get for an Iseki as some Yanmars. I have already gotten several Hinomoto manuals. Some are even in English.Again, this is hearsay and anyone with more complete info PLEASE come forward.
