Disappointed! Brand new V6500. Good winch, poor quality Cable. Broke 2- brand new cables in 2-weeks. Fransgard won't pay for a quality cable.

That doesn't sound to good. I am glad you didn't get whipped. What was the type of cable ? Where did they break ? And what was your set up at the time ? Just curious. It is frightening to think they would be supplying cable that is not rated for the winch plus a safety factor.

sounds undersized to me. I suppose there IS a reason Fermi uses 9/16 cable instead of 7/16.

It's 11mm (7/16") cable. It kinks real easily, so I think that's why it broke. It is a 167' cable (according to the Manual) it broke at about 100' out. I think it is fiber core cable (not steal core). The first time it broke it was out about 150'. Fransgard claims it has not changed cable suppliers for 15-yrs. Well it was 15-yrs. ago I bought a V4000 Fransgard and the cable didn't break until the 13th yr. (it was well used). I'm using the winch on a JD5085M 70 pto hp, the winch is rated for 60-110 pto hp. So I think my tractor is at the lower end of the spectrum.

Kinks have a way of aging wire rope very quickly.

I don't pull on a kinked cable, ever.

They may not have changed suppliers, it doesn't mean they are still putting the same "type" of wire rope (cable) on their winches that they did 15 yrs ago...

I think you have found one of the "negatives" of this new light weight wire rope... AND it's why I didn't want it on my skidding winch...
