found this by the hog pen gate today

A couple months ago I set a 6x6x8 post into the ground and dumped the dirt along side. Today I walk out and found this. The rain exposed it for me. Don't know how deep it was originally, but somewhere between ground surface and two feet.

Nice find!

I've found a few arrowheads and other remnants from years past in freshly plowed fields after it rains. The points just seem to, well, point at you.

Yeah, me too. Our place is an old tobacco farm with a farm house from the 1860's still standing. I use it for a nursery office and shed. I am always finding old farm tools, plow parts, bottles, etc. They ate always fun to find. Just no mason jar full of money yet. Dang it.

Does'nt mean it belonged to any one in particular but just a thought.

Great find!! I have spent countless hours looking for arrowheads, i have found quite a few over the years. To hold something someone relied upon for food and protection untold years ago is, in the words of my generation "far out"!

Great find, unless it was in an ancient burial site on sacred ground that the aborigines want to take back. I don't know if the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act applies to private lands.

Very cool find! I have never found an arrowhead which is one of my great shortcomings IMHO.

They wifey found an arrow head on our place that looks similar to yours. It is very cool, far out, neat, groovy, b...ch'n to find an arrow head.

Our house is on the highest ground for a mile or two, not mountain high but just a high spot. There is a low area that likely was once a creek that stayed wet most of the year before a road was cut through. The place is full of critters now and had to have been in the way distant past. Our house site would have been a good spot for a camp but we have only found the one arrow head. With all of the leave litter in the woods it is hard to find one.

But I know they are there. Somewhere. :laughing:

Just think about it. And Indian had to cut and form a piece of wood for a bow, make a string, form an arrowhead from a piece of flint, cut an arrow, attach the arrowhead to the arrow and then get close enough to an animal to shoot it for food. I know how hard it is to kill a deer with a modern compound bow. It seems impossible the way they did it, but obviously it happened thousands of times over. Just goes to show how ingenious humans can be.

If someone offered me $1,000,000 to accomplish that feat using only the tools available to Indians and a year to complete the task, I wouldn't even try. Failure would be almost assured.

Some of you hard core outdoorsmen are going to tell me you could do it. I don't doubt you at all. Have at it, and post your deer picture. By the way, sorry but I can't offer the $1,000,000. You'll just have to do it for the sake of saying you did it.
