Hi all

Im looking to buy my first compact tractor and need some advice?

I have looked at Foton, Siromer and Landlegend as they are all more or less in my budget as I can get all the attachments with them too, front loader, backhoe, combi collector, pipelaying mole and a post knocker.

By far the best deal is the Landlegend 40HP full spec version. I would rather buy new than second hand as I will get a warrenty and ususally buying secondhand means spending thousands repairing the thing when it goes wrong.

Anybody had much experiance with Landlegend? or should I go for one of the others?

Cheers Jon

welcome to TBN

Siromer are basically a Jinma.
Landlegand are I think a Dongfeng (sp)
Foton is a Foton.

I like the Foton (I bought one)...your choice depends on local dealers, how long they have been in business etc.

Jon,

Welcome to the site from an expat (Londoner).

I have a Jinma but would also recommend the Foton. Another good brand is Dong Feng though I don't know where to get one in the UK.

If you read the posts here you will find there are a number of people who absolutely hate the Chinese brands - possibly because they are cheaper than the main brands. Just ignore the nay - sayers, they are probably sore about spending the big bucks.

As long as you can do your own repairs, the Chinese tractors are a good buy. For me the Jinma has been good and the only regret I have is that I didn't get a tractor with a cab - blowing snow at -20C gets old very quickly.

By the way, I had a couple of great holidays sailing on the Norfolk Broads back in the early 1960's. I expect it has all changed nowadays.

another vote for Foton.. It was my first tractor so my experience is not very broad but I have loved it.. I bought it used and it came from a person who didn't know how to service it or just neglected too. But TBN supported me well and all was right very shortly after the purchase and pretty much at no additional dollars other than fluids. I will backup what others have said you are your own mechanic unless you have dealers near you. Here in the states Chinese tractor dealers are far and few between.. But all owners and Chinese dealers have been excellent at support and getting me things like filters and answering questions. It has worked hard and done well and I think will last as long as any other tractor if taken even slightly care of. I got the Foton404 and have put it in some serious stuff and it always gets itself out of what I can find to get it into ;)

Thanks guys. I can do some repairs myself so will see what the dealer service is like before I buy.

The Landlegend is a Dong Feng here in the UK from Cowlingagri.

It is quite a bit cheaper than the Foton and I can buy one new for the same price as a second hand 1980's main stream tractor.

I think I might give the Landlegend a go. 40hp version is only 」6750+ VAT and it will do everything I want it to do.
