Right now my heater core inlet is connected at the thermostat housing and the heater core outlet is connected at the bottom of the rad. To me this doesn't seem right that the flow at the outlet of the heater core would have to pass through my rad to get further cooled down. In the winter when I use heat I have a hard time getting my engine temps up to operating temperature.

Hi Dotcom,

I when I have installed my heater, I have to remove a plug on the right side of the thermostat housing and install a Y at the hose of the electric heater that is connected on the where the engine block drain valve was.

Here three photos and hope you can see.

This photo was taken before I made the plywood cab, so the inverted Y is not there on the blue hose.

Thanks for replying mon amis Jacques. I guess I was not clear enough. I don't mean the heater that you plug in, I meant the heater core that is in the top of my cab that produces heat inside the cabin. In the 2 first pictures below show where it is connected on my tractor and the last pic is where I think it should go. To me the flow of coolant should flow through the engine block and heater core only and not through the radiator. The way its connected now hot coolant is flowing from the engine and through my heater core and then flowing through my radiator. It is essentially bypassing the thermostat. I have a hard time building engine temps in the winter without further cooling it through the radiator needlessly.

When removing the pipe in the 3rd photo below, in order to maintain flow of coolant when the thermostat is closed I was thinking of removing the pipe and using a 3-way ball valve so I can isolate and bypass the heater core during the summer.

Maybe I myself not be clear too.
In your first pic. it is the same place I connect my outlet to heater core and I use the inlet to engine at the inverted white Y you can see in the my second picture. The heater 120v. is not relevant to the information you ask for the heater core. Plug your return hose below the bypass hose where (your third pic.) the lower red line begin. Just remove the bolt looking plug and connect the return hose. The radiator drain cock is really not a good place for the return heater hose. Don't do what you say in the third picture, as removing the bypass hose. If you remove it and you have a valve you can close the system for summer, you will cut the flow (circulation F) in the engine while the thermostat is close.

As for the engine temp, Last year I replaced the original thermostat by a Carquest 13358 180° (same as 33508 Gates). The engine run warmer as it should for efficiency.

Ok Sounds good.

Agreed thats what I thought.

Yes I knew this would cut off the flow. That is why I said I would install a 3way valve but I will just install the hose on the bolt looking plug.

Thanks I will do this.

Just wondering if you have a picture of the cab you built.

Richard,
Here is two pictures of my plywood cab.

It is made of 3\8 thick plywood and ¾ X 2½ inside as sceletin. The Windows are made of 1\8 acrelic that was cheaper than Plexiglass. The trickie part was for the floor, where the pedal are. I had to finish with some strip of cushion foam to seal where air still pass. Then Under the seat I just fit a piece of carpet to seal the rest of the cab. I keep the original roof as it enter in the house garage and it was there.
Yes, I know it is not like factorie made but it is warm Inside and was made for very less money.
The first winter I use my tractor I promice to myself that the next winter there will be a cab on that tractor.

The factory cab on my Dong Feng 254 has lots of little openings around pedals, hydraulic controls etc.
Apparently the Chinese designer felt that it did not need to be sealed tight.

Still warm enough to blow snow without gloves or a hat on.

Jacques, Looks great! The corners in no way look like plywood. Does it have a frame?

Thanks Richard

Just to show we get a bit of snow also.

By the way, do you glow plugs work to start your engine? Mine don't do the job, I have to use an engine heater to start in winter.
