I've had my CK25 gear for a couple of weeks now. It now has 11 hours on it. I've been cleaning out fence rows and I have trouble switching from forward to reverse or vice versa. I have to work at it to get it in gear. What can I be doing wrong? Do I need to grease the linkage? How easy should it to move the lever?

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new CK25.

Unless the gears are really out of alignment (like constantly grinding when you shift) it's just that new gear teeth and synchros will take a while to wear in. It takes a firm pull 'n shove to shift new gears. Try double-clutching until it gets broken in (30 hours?). On your 50hr maintenance you'll see the fine metal bits in the drained oil.

I think Rex is spot on. My ck30 gear's shuttle seemed awefully tight when new, to the point where at times I had to do it twice to get it to engage properly. Now it works fine, though still requires a firm, postitive motion(118 hrs). Tight is fine by me, rather have it be a nice positive engagement than a loosey-goosey arrangement.

Make sure you are not putting any "down" pressure on the lever when trying to go between Forward & Reverse as that's where Neutral is. Your motion should be firm and lateral(unless you're trying to find Neutral). You'll get the hang of it.

I found with my CK30 Shuttle shift that a few drops of oil around the linkage that runs from the shuttle shift handle to the transmission.A few drops with the spout of the oil can pushed in under the rubber boot on the shift handleand let them dribble into the linkage and bushings behind the dash. You'll find after just a few shifts to work it in it really becomes much easier. It will get sticky if you are working with really dry dusty soil etc.

Lubricate often. I use canned lithium on the linkages. It really helps. Actually pulled a muscle in my back shifting my CK when new. That lever can be a bugger. It seems to be getting easier, the more I use it though (now at 190 Hrs).
