I'm just getting things tacked together. Using 2" x 4"x 1/4" steel tubing for the frame and forks.

okay...I'll go there and see if I can fix it. This is the first time I tried to put a photo here.

Hey, pls post some detail pics of your welding table. That looks NICE.

I need to build something--I currently use a hunk of 3/4 " plywood on two sawhorses--not the best.......

THKS.

Coming along good on the forks. How much weight do you expect to lift with it?

And how about a little info on that welding table. That looks pretty handy.

The table sure looks like a Motorcycle lift to me. Most bike wrenchs own em. Always wanted one for myself, just found another reason why I should. Harbor Freight sells some.

The weight I plan to lift with my forks shouldn't exceed 1200 pounds.

The welding table I made a couple years ago. The design has the hydraulic cylinder pushing the front lift arms and the top deck frame frame pulls the rear arms along with it. Once at desired height, lower the cylinder with the safety stop locking into position holding the rear lift arms and the cylinder holding the front lift arms. It's absolutely solid as a rock.

The frame is 2"x2"x1/4 angle top and bottom. The lift arms are 2"x2"x1/4" square tubing. I used 5/8" grade 8 pivot bolts top and bottom. I designed my table long enough to hold my motorcycle @ 8' long and 33" wide. The top platform drops to 10" off the floor with a max height of about 33". My ramp connects to end with the vice and I drive up the ramp with my motorcyle. I do have to remove the vice and mount the wheel chock to anchor the front tire. I'll get some more pictures of it. It's pretty simple to make.

Here's the webpage that I saw these lifts on. They sell plans here in case you'd like to build one without the trial and error of flying by the seat of your pants. The are many many variations of this style of lift in the pictures section.

Here's a suggestion before you finish the project. Install two 2"x2" auto hitch receiver tubes on the frame at the top and bottom in the center both placed vertically. One sits flush with the bottom and the other sits flush with the top. There would be about a foot of open air between them. These would have the factory installed strenth collars and be pre drilled for just a few dollars each. Once welded on, you could them insert a removeable 2"x2" pole/crane like the one mentioned in the recent gin pole thread with a hook or pulley at the top. Since your design includes easily removeable forks, this would be a neat crane setup with just one easily storable removeable piece. The pole would be held in place with the two pins in the receiver tubes designed for the auto hitches.

Gordon21, Good idea on the boom set up. Not sure what I would use it for but it sounds fun to build.

I'm working on a grapple for the top of the mounting frame. I'm also designing a root fork quick change setup that will mount where the forks are.

Seems like everything is a work in progress with me.

This website is a great gathering spot for like minded thinkers to share and gain knowledge.

Thanks for the great idea.
