I've had my 1815 for almost a year now and it's been a great tractor,
but I have one pet peeve. I sometimes stop and put the brake lock on and then get back on and start driving and forget to release the brake lock.
Do any of the bigger models have an indicator light to let you know the brake lock is on or has anyone installed their own brake lock warning light? I wish it had come with this type of indicator or some type of automatic release when you step on the forward or reverse pedal.

My 5525 has a red indicater light that lets you know if it is on

I do that all the time. The 3215 does not have a light either. I'm getting familiar with the "feel" of the tractor when the brake is on.
But I agree, it would be nice if there was something to remind us...

If it makes you feel any better, I bet 50% of the time I set the PB on my JD, I forget to release and start to drive off. There is a light on the dash - but it does no good if one does not look. Maybe I need to pull the brake on much harder, since it's not that difficult to drive slowly with the brake still engaged.

My early 90's Honda, on the other hand, emits a high pitched beep the second the tractor is put in gear, if the PB is on.

I've been looking at the JD 5x03 series. They don't even have a parking brake, but rather a pawl locked position on the gear selector that basically locks the driveline.

It seems like this might be mildly genius, but I feel like there has to be a catch. If it was the perfect solution, then all the manufacturers would be doing it.

JD has had that design for as long as I can remember, We had it on all of our 1970's models, not sure why other have not picked it up.

We used to call those, "idiot lights". I have left the parking brake locked on my tractor at least once a year. What helped bring this to an end was to implement my two step system. Step #1, sit in tractor seat. Step #2, release parking brake. This works every time. Before the engine gets started, I have solved the problem.

Sometime I wished that my 2015 had the same light. If I had a nickel for every time I took off with the parking brake engaged, well there would probably be a national shortage of nickels.

My 5500 has a brake indicator light but it is attached to the LEFT pedal. If the pedals are not locked together, the lever will only apply right brake and the light will not work. Trips me up all the time.

I too don't know why other Mfg's haven't picked up on the park pawl idea. I have it on my 5400 and it is fantastic. When I shift into park I am positively locked in place. Comes in real handy working on hill sides where you don't have to rely on brakes that may slip. Its one of the things I really do like about the Deere.
