As I stated in my introductions, most of my property is on a hill side & as much as I try to be in the right gears I still need brakes.
The pads are two small blocks against a disk on the transmission with an adjustable rod to the pedal. It seems like this is/was a very common set up.
The problem is, any/every time I adjust them they seem to work great on flat ground or small grades but if I really start mowing they are almost not even a factor. They have been adjusted every which way I can think of & nothing seems to work. The pads I had were thin so I swapped them for a pair of used ones that are very thick & look almost new with no change in stopping.
I need brakes because of breaking belts on the hills and loss of traction in some areas.
My other option would to be using my 2002 series 1000 Cub Cadet with about 30 hours on it that I have @ another location. It's a little smaller than my Ford & I was always afraid of tearing it up on this property. I did get a good used set of ag tires for it cheap but I'm still not sure about using it.
If anyone has encountered this problem or has a fix for this (better pads, adding a caliper w/a rotor etc....) please let me know as this is the second year of mowing almost two acres scarred!
I know buying a new tractor that is matched for the job is the right choice but money is tight right now.
