Love my 1910, continues to be a workhorse. My 15 YO son was using to move wood with the loader last weekend and brought back stuck in 4th gear on the high side. The shifter lever looks to be pointing at a different gear but it's definitely in 4th. Low side shifts fine, PTO and all other trans related stuff works good. I've found a couple of movement related recommendations to pop it out but so far nothing has worked. It will not budge manually and I don't like to force expensive parts in/out of place. Two questions: 1) If I pull the plate off to see what's stuck, do I pull all bolts off around the perimeter and the ones under (2 each) shifter levers or just the perimeter and 2) is it likely to be fairly obvious where the fork/lever is stuck or is there a diagnostic procedure I need to follow to find what's stuck? I appreciate the help very much.

This is for the dual stick, right? If like my 1900, as I recall you remove the top plate, and you will probably find the ball on the end of the shifter has jumped out of the fork. Just put back in place and bolt back up. Might check for excess wear on ball end.

I am guessing you have a stuck detent ball. If you remove the bolts next to the shifter you should find a spring and check ball under the spring. Remove the ball and check the condition. If it shifts with the detent removed that is your problem. Bill

Fellas, Thank you very much, it was a 15 minute fix then good to go. Should the detent balls be removable through the spring hole? I was unable to get them through with a pen magnet....was like I was a kid playing operation again only without the buzzer (just cursing).

My thanks too to the forum. Same story as claimsman- I couldn't get the detent balls (Ford 1700) out either, but once the pressure was released, she freed up. Been having a run of things breaking (because I own too many things!!) and it's great to have it be simple to fix, Dean

Detent ball is slightly larger than the hole on top when you remove the bolt. I have taken the cover off and was not able to push the ball thru the hole.
