Ford model 1920 seat pin

I have a Ford model 1920 diesel and I'm trying to replace the seat. I have never done this before, so my question is, should the seat pin slide all the way from either end? I have taken both spring clips off and have beat the thing back and forth but I'm not gaining much ground. Just want to make sure I am at least approaching this correctly.

I see this is an old post, did you get this resolved? We needed a new seat too a month ago and ended up spending $100 at Tractor Supply and just drilled holes to mount a new seat- I think the dealer cost for an OEM assembly was around $400.
