It’s time to give the old tractor a tune up and have a stack of parts to install. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, coil, and maybe something else I’m forgetting. While disassembling the distributor I noticed the timing advance weights looked dirty and pulled them out to clean them up. The springs are badly worn and the assembly needs replaced.
Anyone replaced the timing advance weights? I’ve been looking and can’t seem to find anything. The local NAPA has no interest in helping find anything unless I give them the part number.

you can hit the new holland parts site and see all the exploded parts diagrams. the same that are in your parts manuals. there you can find the ford part numbers. Napa GENERALLY crosses ford part numbers over pretty good. There are also some good NH dealers, and at least one here that can help.

Never thought the New Holland site would support parts that far back. I found the part number I need and just need to give NAPA a call tomorrow. The part breakdowns are well laid out and seem detailed. I’ll be using those again for sure.
Thanks for the help

It seems as though the advance weight assembly has been discontinued. NAPA and autozone come up with nothing and the local new holland dealer says I need to buy the entire distributor. Anyone have luck finding just the weight assembly?

A word of warning if buying "aftermarket" Ford electrical parts..
there are thousands of stories about them being bad, right out of the box.
The "mechanic" puts the OLD part back on & the tractor runs smooth.. caps cracked, points melting together, on & on..
Sorry, no help on the weights.. have you tried a salvage yard for a distributor?
Soundguy is very knowledgeable.. listen to his advise.

Good info on the aftermarket parts. The parts I’ve bought so far have been from Steiner tractor and are working well. I’ll do some searching and see if I can find a salvage yard.

if you can't find a good used dizzy assembly, you will have to buy an aftermarket. keep in mind the aftermarket may use different points, cap, etc.

I’m going to keep my eye out for a good used assembly. The advance weights I have now are functional but are just about worn out. If needed I’ll buy new from Ford/new holland as the tractor runs very well when the parts are good.
