I've been wanting to try a flail for a few years and couldn't justify the ~ $3-4k for a good used one (Mott/Alamo/LandPride(Maschio)/JD) so I bought a rough Ford 907 6' locally yesterday. The PTO shaft, u-joints, rotor, rotor bearings, hangers, flails, roller and roller bearings seem to all be present and usable.
Known issues:
-The gearbox has oil but the input and output bearings are shot (loose). It looks like I can get CNH bearings and seals from Messicks.
-The splines on the top and bottom side drive pulleys have slop. The shafts look OK. Ideas on how to repair? The drive pulley for the rotor alone is $553 from Messicks (more than I paid for this heap)!
-The center portion of the body between the 3pt mount needs patch. No big deal.
-Needs a new belt (from another post I found on here, it looks like I need a C-53).
-Needs a good wire wheel and paint job.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions on how to proceed. We have several welding/machine places that are relatively close.
